CHM1045 - Week 4
What you will learn this week:
Atoms, Ions, and Periodicity
What is "matter" and what is it "made from?"
For that matter (pun intended!) to say that matter is made of atoms - so just what are "atoms?"
And, How do atoms make everything from trees and cars to people and pets?
These next few weeks you will explore the nature of matter and its composition - from individual atoms and elements leading (hopefully) to an appreciation of the periodic table. You will also study the structure of the atom and the ways in which atoms combine to form compounds - - - compounds that make up everything we can touch and see -
Writing Names and Formulas
You will be introduced to some basic rules to help you name many of the substances that make up the material world - both "covalent" and "ionic" compounds.
